What we got up to at @bcu_sustainability ‘s upcycling merch workshop for the university’s Go Green Week🪡🧵👕♻️💚

#reinvntd #upcyclingworkshop

Last week, we were invited to Birmingham City University @mybcu by @bcu_sustainability to lead an upcycling workshop as part of the university’s Go Green Week 💚♻️🍃🌱🌳

The workshop followed a screening of the National Emergency Briefing, which brought important conversations about the climate and nature crisis into the room. Our workshop was a chance to keep that conversation going through creativity and practical action. ♻️🧵🪡

Our workshop attendees transformed old BCU hoodies, totes and tees using scrap fabrics, patches and sewing techniques such as appliqué.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to BCU for inviting us. We had the best time! 💚

✨ A special message from Erin O’Connor MBE! ✨

From the world’s most iconic runways to Wolverhampton’s very first youth sustainable fashion show! 💚♻️

We were incredibly honoured to welcome @erinoconnor, internationally renowned supermodel and Save the Children ambassador, as a special guest judge at our Future Threads fashion show.

With a remarkable career spanning three decades, Erin has walked for some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses, including Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Christian Dior.

Through our Future Threads programme, more than 200 young people across Wolverhampton explored the connection between fashion and climate action, learning practical sewing and upcycling skills and transforming pre-loved clothing into original designs through an introductory four-hour workshop.🪡🧵

Having someone of Erin’s experience and influence celebrate their creativity and recognise the importance of giving young people access to these valuable skills was a truly special moment for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to Erin and the team at @savethechildrenuk for believing in our young people and helping us shine a spotlight on the next generation of designers, changemakers and climate-conscious creatives. 🌍🧵

Future Threads was created and led by Reinvntd CIC, with support from the Save the Children Young People Climate Fund, funded by QBE. The fashion show was also supported by Wolverhampton BID, TP Squared, Lead with Impact and the University of Wolverhampton.

🎤 FUTURE THREADS: IN THEIR OWN WORDS | PART 4

The catwalk was over a few weeks ago, but what happens next? 💚

For our final Reel in the Future Threads student voices series, our Sustainability Director, Lucy Clarke @lucyx.mc asked the young people one important question:

What’s one thing you’ll do differently after taking part in Future Threads? 💡♻️

🎥 Here’s what they had to say!

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part in Future Threads, and we hope this is just the beginning of their sustainable fashion journey! 🌍🧵

A huge thank you to all the students, schools, partners and supporters who helped make Future Threads possible.

One of our biggest aims with Future Threads was to encourage young people to question their relationship with fashion and recognise the value in the clothes they already own.

Our Sustainability Director, Lucy Clarke @lucyx.mc put this very thought to some of the students involved. 👕🗑️

Last week, we had the pleasure of delivering an upcycling workshop at @recoverynearyou’s Recovery Hub in Wolverhampton through @suit_services

It was a wonderful morning being creative. Filled with conversation and a lot of laughs along the way! Attendees learnt how pre-loved textiles and discarded materials can be transformed into something new and beautiful. 💚

At Reinvntd, our workshops are about so much more than sewing and sustainability. They’re about building confidence, encouraging self-expression and bringing communities together through creativity.

A huge thank you to the @suit_services @recoverynearyou for welcoming us, and to @nacrocharity for making this workshop possible.🪡💚

Through our hands-on sewing and upcycling workshops, students had the opportunity to get creative, experiment with pre-loved clothing and develop practical life skills.

🎤 FUTURE THREADS: IN THEIR OWN WORDS | PART 1

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt about fast fashion and the environment? 🌍

As part of our Future Threads project, young people across Wolverhampton explored the environmental impact of the fashion industry, from overconsumption and textile waste to the importance of rethinking how we use our clothes.

But what really stood out to them?

Our Sustainability Director, Lucy Clarke @lucyx.mc caught up with some of the students involved to hear what they’d learnt.

Still not over our Future Threads, fashion show last weekend 🤩

We’re in awe of these talented students who took to the challenge of transforming old and unwanted garments into these masterpieces, in just 4 hours might we add!!! (@britishsewingbee watch out, we may send a few students your way 👀)

Not only did they work so well in groups to sew and upcycle, but each outfit told a story, linking back to nature, the environment & climate. This former part of @savechildrenuk ‘s Young People Climate Fund programme of events, funded by QBE. It was so wonderful to hear the speakers share these stories and talk so passionately about what they’d learnt through our Future Threads educational programme. 📚🧵🪡

We’ve had so many parents, students and teachers already asking when we’re putting on the next event 🤩

Thank you to all students (pictured and behind the scenes) from @oswbacademy @thomastelfordonline @coltonhillscs @blackcountryap for being part of this project! You all smashed it 💥💚

And to our superstar singer on the day, thank you, Lottie. Your voice was incredible 😍 and the upcycled beano mag outfit, 10/10! 🤩

Have you spotted our Future Threads posters and banners around the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton? 👀💚

There’s a brilliant story behind the designs, and it’s all about creativity, collaboration and giving emerging talent real-world opportunities!

As part of Future Threads, we partnered up with our Catwalk Sponsor, @tpsquaredltd, and our Award Sponsor @wlv_gd @wlvcreativeindustries at the University of Wolverhampton, to give graphic design students an exciting live brief 🤩

The challenge? To create a bold visual identity that would bring Future Threads to life across our marketing and promotional materials! 🎨

Students developed their own creative concepts, exploring everything from typography and colour to patterns and visual storytelling.

We then had the opportunity to visit the university, hear the students pitch their ideas and see the incredible creativity and thought behind their work.

And now, one student’s design has gone from a university project to being displayed across Wolverhampton’s shopping centre! @mandercentre 🙌

This is what meaningful collaboration looks like 🤝

Connecting education with industry, creating opportunities for young creatives and giving students the chance to see their work make a real impact. 🙏🏽

A HUGE thank you to Carolyn and Harriet at TP Squared, the University of Wolverhampton School of Creative Industries, lecturer Marc Austin for getting the students involved and everyone involved in making this happen. 💚

And of course, congratulations Morgan 👏 👏

To all our wonderful vendors, thank you for bringing such an inspiring mix of sustainable fashion, handmade creations, vintage finds, upcycled pieces and creative ideas to Wolverhampton. Your passion and energy made the marketplace so special! ✨

Thank you to every person who came along, supported our vendors, discovered something new and joined the conversation around shopping more consciously. Every purchase, conversation and connection helped support independent makers and a more sustainable future for fashion. 🙏🏽

This was Reinvntd CIC’s first Sustainable Fashion & Makers Marketplace, and hopefully not the last! ♻️🧵🌍

We’ve kicked off the new school year with a bang! Taking our ‘Future Threads’, sustainable fashion and climate education programme, to two more schools. ✅

This morning we were at @coltonhillscs, last week we visited @thomastelfordonline UTC and before the summer holidays we spoke to students at @oswbacademy. So many interesting questions from curious students! 🤔📚🎤♻️

Just 1 more school visit with our assembly presentation before the practical skills building and clothes upcycling workshops begin. 🪡🧵👚👖

And then it’s showtime at our public catwalk in the heart of Wolverhampton City Centre @mandercentre in October. It’s going to be a great few months 🤩
