Wolverhampton Secondary Schools Invited to Join Future Threads Fashion Show

Wolverhampton's First Ever Youth Sustainable Fashion Show Launches This Autumn And Secondary Schools In The City Are Being Invited To Get Involved.

What if the clothes we wear could help tackle climate change?

This year, young people across Wolverhampton will be exploring exactly that question through Future Threads 2026, a brand new and exciting city-wide project that combines creativity, climate action and sustainable fashion.

Delivered by Reinvntd CIC and supported by the Save the Children Young People Climate Fund, the Future Threads fashion show will give more than 100 secondary school students the opportunity to learn about the environmental impact of fashion, develop practical upcycling skills, and showcase their creativity on a public catwalk in the heart of Wolverhampton.

Why Fashion?

The fashion industry is one of the world's largest polluting industries, responsible for significant carbon emissions, water consumption and textile waste. Yet fashion is also something that many young people engage with every day.

Our Future Threads fashion show will use fashion as a powerful tool to help students understand climate change in a way that feels relevant, practical and inspiring. Rather than focusing solely on problems, the project encourages young people to explore solutions through creativity, repair, reuse and redesign.

What Will Students Do?

Between July and October 2026, participating secondary schools will take part in:

• Climate and sustainable fashion workshops

• Interactive sessions exploring fast fashion, textile waste and overconsumption

• Hands-on upcycling and garment redesign activities

• Creative sewing, embellishment and repair techniques

• Team-based design challenges using pre-loved clothing

Students will work together to transform unwanted garments into original fashion pieces, demonstrating how clothing can be given a second life instead of ending up in landfill.

The project also aligns with curriculum areas including Art & Design, Design Technology and PSHE, while supporting schools with enrichment opportunities, careers education, confidence building and personal development.

Future Threads: A City-Wide Fashion Show

The project will culminate in Wolverhampton's first-ever youth sustainable fashion showcase on Saturday 10th October 2026 at the Mander Centre shopping centre. Students will take to the catwalk to present their upcycled designs and share powerful messages about climate action, sustainability and the future they want to see.

The event will bring together schools, families, businesses and the wider community to celebrate the creativity, talent and leadership of Wolverhampton's young people.

The fashion show event is being supported by Wolverhampton BID, helping connect schools, businesses and community organisations around a shared vision for a more sustainable future.

Youth Voices at the Heart of the Project

This community project has been shaped by conversations with young people who told us they care about climate change but often feel unsure how they can make a difference.

Through this project, students will gain practical skills, build confidence, collaborate with peers and discover how creative action can have a positive impact on both people and the planet.

At its heart, the Future Threads fashion show is about empowering young people to become changemakers, showing that sustainability doesn't have to be boring, restrictive or overwhelming. It can be creative, bold, collaborative and fun.

We are currently inviting Wolverhampton secondary schools to take part in the Future Threads fashion show for 2026.

Participating schools will receive:

• fully funded climate and sustainable fashion workshops

• all materials and resources

• hands-on upcycling activities

• and the opportunity to showcase student creations at Wolverhampton's first Youth Sustainable Fashion Showcase on 10th October 2026

  
  

The project offers a unique opportunity for students to develop creativity, confidence, teamwork and sustainability knowledge while exploring real-world environmental challenges through fashion.
