We’ve kicked off the new school year with a bang! Taking our ‘Future Threads’, sustainable fashion and climate education programme, to two more schools. ✅

This morning we were at @coltonhillscs, last week we visited @thomastelfordonline UTC and before the summer holidays we spoke to students at @oswbacademy. So many interesting questions from curious students! 🤔📚🎤♻️

Just 1 more school visit with our assembly presentation before the practical skills building and clothes upcycling workshops begin. 🪡🧵👚👖

And then it’s showtime at our public catwalk in the heart of Wolverhampton City Centre @mandercentre in October. It’s going to be a great few months 🤩

Last week we were back in the community in Wolverhampton doing what we love most! We hosted a ‘Patch - Print - Upcycle’ workshop and it was such a hit ✨

Have you ever bought something because it was marketed as “sustainable” or “recycled”, only to later realise the reality was a little different? 😫

Only last month did I learn that recycled polyester is primarily made from discarded PET plastic bottles! 😱

Sustainability language is everywhere, but understanding what it actually means can be so confusing.

Hopefully increased scrutiny of fashion ads like this will encourage greater transparency and help drive meaningful change across the industry.

🚨 Are you a secondary school in Wolverhampton? 🚨
Or is your child a student in year 9 or 10 in Wolverhampton? If so, we’ve got an incredible opportunity for you! 👀

We’ve recently secured funding through charity @savechildrenuk, to deliver Wolverhampton’s very first Youth Sustainable Fashion Show in the heart of the city centre. We’re in the process of selecting up-to 6 secondary schools to take part. 💚

Each school will receive:
♻️ 1 presentation / assembly-style session exploring fashion and textile waste, climate change and sustainability.
🧵students will get 4 hours of practical workshop sessions and learn how to upcycle pre-loved clothes into new garments, fit for a catwalk runway!
👕All materials and workshop facilitation is FREE of charge to schools.

Students will also get the opportunity to model their garments down the runway in the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton, which will be transformed into a fashion catwalk for one special day on Saturday 10th October 📅

We want schools to get involved, not only to put Wolverhampton on the map for leading the way in sustainable fashion education for our youth in the region, but this project also links directly to Art & Design, PSHE, AND supports a variety of Ofsted priorities including personal development, careers and enrichment with prizes including opportunities for work experience within fashion. 🌍✨
