Reinvntd Launches Cancer Support Group

Reinvntd CIC is proud to launch Cancer, Sew What?, a new initiative designed to support individuals affected by cancer through creativity, connection, and community.

Founded by Maya Patel following her own experience with cancer treatment, Cancer, Sew What? offers a safe, welcoming space where participants can come together to sew, stitch, and share, or simply sit quietly and create.

Cancer treatment can often be an isolating experience. Long periods at home, fatigue, and emotional strain can make it difficult to stay connected to others. While traditional support groups play an important role, this cancer support group offers something a little different; a space where conversation is optional, and creativity leads the way.

At the heart of the project is the idea that sewing and embroidery can be deeply therapeutic. The slow, repetitive nature of stitching provides a calming focus, helping to reduce anxiety and create moments of mindfulness.

What to Expect

Participants joining Cancer, Sew What? can expect:

• Relaxed, informal sessions (both virtual and in-person)

• Simple sewing and embroidery activities suitable for all levels

• A supportive, pressure-free environment

• Opportunities to connect with others who understand similar experiences

No prior sewing experience is needed, and all materials will be provided for in-person sessions.

Building a Supportive Community

More than just a sewing group, Cancer, Sew What? is about building a community. A space where people feel seen, supported, and less alone, whether they choose to share their story or simply be present.

Reinvntd is committed to making the sessions as inclusive and accessible as possible, including exploring options for outdoor meet-ups, gentle group walks, and providing support for those who may face barriers to attending.
